Gutenburgistas

The internet is a writer’s medium. Anyone can publish absolutely anything, and therein lies part of the problem. In the warm glow of a CRT screen, what is it that you want to read? No matter how you twist and turn, no laptop will ever be as personally comfortable as a cold book. If we’re ever going to form a decent revolution out of this, as so many people want, a few more things need to fall into place.

I like to look at how the last publishing revolution went to get a few clues as to what we need.

Crispin, be Remembered

Many holidays have been proclaimed for various reasons. Some are important, some are trivial. Martin Luther King Day took a long fight to become a holiday, Columbus Day has largely passed on without a fight. But October 25th is one holiday that could be added to our calendar, a holiday that celebrates something I am rather fond of. It is St Crispin’s Day, and it celebrates the English Language.

Post Dispatch

This week’s mailbag has been very light. I have to say, I’m worried that people don’t care about me anymore. After all, I’ve written about my doubts on the human origin of global warming and got nothing. No one even bothered to call me an idiot or wacko. I outlined my plan to change the way books are marketed in the USofA and no one called me pretentious or a “know-it-all”.

The internet just isn’t what it used to be.

A Novel Solution

The amount of effort that goes into writing a book is enormous. It’s hard work, and to me a kind of method acting where I do my best to be the characters for a short while. I let the characters figure out what they are doing and let the story flow like water. If you’ve ever written a novel, you’ll know how draining that is.
