Elections are turned on who shows up. A low turnout usually favors the more conservative candidate for a variety of reasons, so it’s up to the left to get people to the polls. For this reason, a Get Out The Vote (GOTV) strategy is an essential part of any Democrat’s campaign.

The bridge underneath you has given you a few moments of warning as it pitched to one side, and then you are suspended in the air before that sickening splash. The water comes in as you know this is it. If you are conscious, you probably have only enough time to panic as you start to realize this is the end.

Cat President

The time has come for serious change. The time is now to elect my cat, Tony, as President of the United States.

I realize that you may not think he is qualified. Well, the Constitution does not specify you can’t be 35 cat-years old. Tony was born in the woods of Wisconsin, probably in a barn. Think how the Abraham Lincoln log-cabin routine can be played out here.

Politics and People

I had the great pleasure of sitting down for a few beers with people who are in politics as a profession or a significant hobby. If you have never met such people, you might be surprised by how they do things.

I know a lot of people like this in part because politics has been something of a hobby for me as well. Most of the people involved are hobbyists, which is my way of saying they have real skills that they never attempt to make a buck off of; it’s the fun of it that keeps them going.

Honor and Sense

Suppose that you want to honor a great writer or other person whose work helped to make you who you are.

Would you do this through a cheap parody that you wrote quickly without ever thinking it through? Would you take just one of the themes that you loved and use it completely out of context, never trying to relate it to the rest of the work? Would you toss the works you love into a pile and let them fall into disrepair?
